Obituary of Norman Currie Gero
NEW GLASGOW – Norman Currie “Bub” Gero, 59, New Glasgow, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 24, 2009.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Norman Joseph and Esther Laurena (Johnson) Gero. Bub was currently employed as a custodian with the Chignecto Central Regional School Board. Previous to this, he had been employed at various local automobile dealerships doing auto body work prior to opening Gero’s Auto Body. Bub was an avid fisherman, enjoyed the outdoor life, playing hockey as well as other sports. He was involved with the New Glasgow Junior B Bombers, played with the Truro Junior B Bearcats, Trenton Softball League and had played Broomball.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Janel Elizabeth (Phillips) Gero; sisters, Barbara Agadzi, Ajax, Ont.; Faye Gero, Scarborough, Ont.; Norma Jean Gero, Laurena Parris, North York, Ont.; nieces and nephews, George, Charity, Prince, Jennifer, Lena May and Kimberly; aunts, Edith Borden, Canso; Elsie Upshaw, Shirley Landry, Truro; mother-in-law, Betty Phillips, Pictou; brothers-in-laws, Dr. Peter (Stephanie) Phillips, Collingwood, Ont.; Doug (Verna) Burgess, New Glasgow;
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, Judge Welsford Phillips.
The family will receive visitors 12 – 12:45 p.m. Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel where funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery at a later date.
