Obituary of Thomas Bouman

Thomas Bouman, 78, Egypt Road, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 27, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Born in Voorthuizen, Holland, he was a son of the late Hendrikus and Antonia (Brand) Bouman. In 1955, his family immigrated to Canada and made a new home in Truro. Tom was a Kilin Recaust Operator and had been employed with the former Northern Pulp for 42 years. He was a very well-respected man, who always had something kind to say. He possessed a “heart of gold”. Tom loved animals, having had many pets over the years, from cats and dogs to tropical fish and looking after wildlife. Tom enjoyed bowling, camping and spending time at the beach. Sunday drives with his family were adventures, as you never knew which back road you would end up on. Tom and Julie spent many enjoyable hours together gardening, a passion they both thoroughly enjoyed.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Viola “Julie” Bouman; daughter, Denise (Bouman) Sponagle (Gary Campbell), Eureka; son, Shane Bouman, MacLellan’s Brook; grandchildren, Samantha Sponagle (Brandon Clark), Eureka; Amanda Sponagle (Colin Davidson), Pictou; Alesha (Matthew) Deschamps, Ottawa, Ont.; Justine Bouman, Halifax; Megan Baine, St. John, N.B.; great-grandchildren, Tristen, Cohen, Jayde, Brooklyn, Isabelle, Aveline and Eve; sisters, Rea (Jim) Millest, Ottawa; sister-in-law, Freda Bouman, Truro; several nieces and nephews; cousin, David Jones, Truro.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Corry Mollenhauer; brother, Hank Bouman.

In honor of Tom’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.

Donations may be made in memory of Tom to the Pictou County SPCA, Canadian Red Cross or Canadian Cancer Society.
