I wish to express my condolence to John’s remaining siblings, my cousins. It’s been a big year of loss for your wee group. First, Clarice and now John.
Although I had very little connection with most of you out East till I was an older person, the Christmas cards and phone calls always underlined that there was a strong bond between our parents, which was passed along to us in stories and characters and makes us the people we have become. I apologize I can’t make it out to be with you in person to see our people off in memorial. I will spend time on Saturday to sing a few tunes in Gaelic that I would do for your mum sometimes when we talked. They can dance their way back home.
John shared my dad’s middle name, and disposition too, as I have been told. The quiet, yet witty observer. Big-hearted.
I’m so glad I got to meet you all again as adults and had a trip or two with John along as well to take dad’s ashes to PEI. I will remember our lobster feasts and sunburns as we spent a few days at the shore. You are good people and I’m glad to know you.
Rest well, Cousin John. You are back to stardust again.
With love,
Heather MacLaren
