Obituary of Darrell Wayne Feit
WALKERVILLE – Darrell Wayne Feit, 60, Walkerville, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 14, 2024, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Martha (Guthro) Feit and the late Charles “Buddy” Feit. Born profoundly deaf, he attended preschool and elementary school in Moncton, later attending The School for the Deaf, Amherst where he finished his academic training and following, studied carpentry, specializing in finish carpentry. Darrell was an advocate for the deaf community. In the 1990’s he was instrumental in securing visual smoke alarms through the county fire departments for the deaf. Darrell was an active member of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and, Let Abilities Work communities. He was influential in accessibility to interpreters and communication devices for the deaf throughout the province. Darrell enjoyed teaching sign language (ASL) to Summer Street Clients, groups and individuals. He was very proud of his deaf culture and interacting with the deaf community.
He absolutely loved family gatherings of any kind. Although he had no children, he adored and loved his four nieces as his own. Darrell possessed a wonderful sense of humour and loved life to the fullest. He shared a special and unique bond with his sister Lynn, who from an early age protected and looked out for him. Darrell and his brother, Craig, thoroughly enjoyed sports, especially their love of “The Habs”. Through out his life, Darrell was fascinated with all things space related, especially the Space Shuttle program and most recently, the Space X launch. Through out his life, Darrell was most grateful for Susan Fraser, an interpreter, who was a great friend and mentor. Above all Darrell always stated that he “was blessed” to have met his wonderful wife, Rosalind, in his late teens. Together they shared and met many challenges. The happiest day of Darrell’s life was September 15, 1990, when they married in St. Georges Parish, New Glasgow. He leaves a rich legacy of love, faith and perseverance.
