Obituary of William Gregory Burns
William Gregory “Bill” Burns, 91, New Glasgow, passed away, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at home.
Born on May 20, 1932, in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late George Elmo and Elizabeth Ann (Chisholm) Burns. In early years, Bill enlisted in the armed forces and served as a Canadian International Peacekeeper in Eygpt and Cyprus. Upon honourable discharge, he was employed as a boiler maker with I. Matheson Company Ltd., and as a welder with Trenton Works from where he retired. Bill was an avid ATVer well into his 80’s and enjoyed the company of his friends in the ATV club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time at his place in Lower Glencoe, Guysborough County.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Marie (Chisholm) Burns; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Glenn) Williams, Caribou Island; sister-in-law, Carol Chisholm, Broadway; brother-in-law, Edward (Shirley) Chisholm, Glace Bay; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Marie Zammitt; brother, Donald Burns; sister-in-law, Betty Burns; brothers-in-law, Charles Zammitt, David Chisholm, Francis Chisholm, and Richard Chisholm.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow with Father Thomas A. MacNeil presiding.
If desired, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow.
