Dot, Joyce, Donna, Bryce and family,
Our families have been Black Point summer neighbours for a very long time. Arnold had built our family cottage and some of those of my extended family.
We as kids all thought him invincible - having to our understanding been struck by lightening twice! And in the revelry of our younger days, our parents would find themselves apologizing for crowds or music that may have disturbed the neighbours the evening before ... but the answer was always the same - they never heard a thing :)
Thinking of you all at this difficult time and hoping memories bring you comfort. May he rest in peace.
Hayley

Our heartfelt condolences to Dot, Joyce, Donna and the Chisholm Family. Arnold was one of a kind. We lived beside him for years before we actually had a conversation. It was after a snowstorm, I could see him up on his garage roof removing snow so I went over to see if I could help out. His appreciation was over whelming., so I made sure I was available for him after that. As we grew older he found more and more for me to do. One of the kindest men I knew, dry sense of humour, set in his ways. I will miss his smile and all that was Arnold.

Our sincere condolences to the Chisholm Family. Arnold was one of a kind. Anyone who had the pleasure to meet him knew he was very hard working, smart and compassionate. One of my fond summer memories growing up was seeing my Father and Arnold chatting and relaxing at the cottage. Thank you and Dot for always welcoming our family and sharing great times!

Dear Dot, Joyce, Donna, Bryce, and family
We are very sorry to learn of the passing of Arnold we are thinking of you all and are grateful for the times we have spent together.
Catherine, Greg, Lynette, and family
A couple of stories:
Aunt Catherine recalls her brother Arnold as resourceful and productive from a young age. Throughout his life he was always self-sufficient building his first “camp,” complete with stove, in the woods with a friend while in school, he went on to construct all his personal accommodations, starting with a house trailer, then the house in Linacy, and the cottages at Black Point.
He had an aptitude for mechanics as well. The family had a 1931 Essex car which his father Danie Chisholm purchased new. Right from the factory the car had an intermittent problem with starting. The dealership tried and tried to solve the problem but without success. Apart from this inconvenience, it was a great car and the family kept it for many years, learning to simply park it on a hill to make it easier to start. When Arnold was in high school, the car became important to the young man, so he took it upon himself to try to fix it. He disassembled the starter motor, inspected every part, and found a small burr that interfered with the operation of the starter. A quick fix with the file and then reassembling the motor resulted in an end to the 12-year problem that many professionals could not fix.
A willingness to accept a challenge and get the job done by thinking it through and working methodically was something that Arnold carried through his whole life. A good lesson for us all to just look at the problem and take the time to understand it, the solution will come.
Greg recalls, “well, you know, a fella could just …" Uncle Arnold was very diplomatic, every time we were discussing something he was careful not to be hurting my feelings, but also, he had a wry wit and a very dry sense of humour. He made suggestions and was always very diplomatic and always very correct. Sometimes he was earnest, sometimes you could see he by the gleam in his eye that he was laughing inside, but always it was “well, you know, a fella could just...” and I knew there was no reason to look any further for an answer.
