Obituary of Colin Robert MacDonald
Colin Robert “Collie” MacDonald, 79, Little Harbour, passed away, Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John Dan and Mary Elsie (DeYoung) MacDonald. Collie was employed as a forklift operator with the former Trenton Works for 46 years. He began coaching hockey when his boys turned three years old, a passion he continued for over 30 years. Collie was a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan all his life and avid hockey fan, having played gentleman’s hockey for several years. He enjoyed camping and time spent at Harbour Lights Campground with Mary Bell. Collie was a member of the Pictou County Antique Car Club and was proud of his 37’ Dodge Coupe and 65’ Comet. He will be affectionately remembered by his family as a sweet, loving and honest man.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Isabell “Mary Bell” (Forsythe) MacDonald; daughter, Donna Colleen Livingstone, Beaver Bank; James Colin “Jim” MacDonald (Jillian), Kentville; granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Mitch) Polley, Moncton, N.B.; Tapanga MacDonald, New Glasgow; Tabrina MacDonald, Trenton; great-grandson, Jack Robert Polley, Moncton; step-granddaughter, Kelsey Morine-Reid (Bailey Smith), Kentville; step-great, grandchildren, Isabella and Oliver Morine-Smith, Kentville; sisters, Isabel Hammond, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow; Bertha Ryan, Hamilton, Ont.; brother, Tom MacDonald, Pictou Landing; sister-in-law, Irene MacDonald, Thorburn; Kay Gratto, Thorburn; Margaret Ann Guerin, Mississauga, Ont.; brother-in-law, Jack Hammond, Laggan; William “Billy” (Pat) Forsythe, Thorburn; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, John Allan MacDonald; sisters, Annie Jane, Lizzie, Mary, Mabel, and Loretta; brothers, William, Joseph, Angus, Dan and Spurgeon “Spurge”; sisters-in-law, Goldie, Margaret “Peggy” MacDonald, Louise MacDonald and Marjorie Campbell; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 29 in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 30 with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson presiding. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in memory of Collie to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association.
