Obituary of Robie Frederick Betts
Robie Frederick Betts, 78, Stellarton, formerly of Irish Mountain, passed away, Thursday, May 25, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Ira Drysdale and Mary Catherine (Cameron) Betts. Robie was a letter carrier with Canada Post, New Glasgow for many years. He was actively involved with Alcohol Anonymous for over 52 years, during which time he worked diligently on behalf of his fellow members. Robie enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at the camp with his “buddies” and family. He was an avid reader and had “a book in every room”, from science fiction to current events, he enjoyed the solitude of reading. Robie leaves a rich legacy of love for family, strong work ethic and attitude of service to others.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Donna Betts; sons, David Betts and his children, Christopher and Ira, Brampton, Ont.; Jason (Pamela) Betts and their children, Madison, Alaina and Cameron, Doctors Brook; nephew, Mark Fellows, Vancouver Island, B.C.; sisters-in-law, Eileen Betts, Churchville; Joyce (Earl) Reid, New Glasgow; Cheryl Clarke, Guelph, Ont.; brother-in-law, Allan Gray, Brockville, Ont.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Annie Cameron and Rhoda Fellows; brother, Donald Betts; sisters-in-law, Doreen Taylor and Rollande Gray; brothers-in-law, Sonny Gray, Albert Gray and Ronnie Taylor
In keeping with Robie’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
Donations may be made in Robie’s memory to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
