Obituary of Isobel MacFarlane

Isobel MacFarlane, 84, Riverton, formerly of Dundas, Ont., passed away peacefully, Friday, May 5, 2023, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Isabella (Findley) Holbourne.  Isobel was formally trained as a fashion designer in Scotland. In 1963 she and her family moved to Dundas, Ont., where she raised her children. To her family she was known as “mom”, “grannie”, “partner in crime”, “Mrs. Woman” and the most amazing woman they ever met. Gran was best described by her granddaughter as a “funny”, “sassy”, Scottish lady who inspired her every day. By her grandson as a “quick-witted”, “kindhearted”, “gentle soul” and by her daughter as her “best friend” and “mentor”. Above all, she leaves a rich legacy of love that will be forever cherished by her family. 

Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Stover (Vince Coady), Riverton; granddaughter, Rebecca Coady (Peter Richard); grandsons, Blair (Ryan James), Jayden and Noah Coady; sister-in-law, Jeanette Oliver, Scotland; nephews, John (Joanne) Holbourne, Grimbsy, Ont.; Greig (Ann) Oliver, Scotland.  

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, David; daughter, Susan; brother, David; sister-in-law, Mary. 

Isobel’s family wishes to thank the wonderful Pictou County VON Stellarton staff who made it possible for her to remain in her home. They deeply appreciate all that was done for Isobel and wish you to know she loved you all.

In keeping with Isobel’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.
