Obituary of Rodney Gene MacFarlane

Rodney Gene “Buster” “Buzz” MacFarlane, 75, Hardwood Hill, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Born in Moncton, N.B.,  he was a son of the late William Edgett and Pauline Beatrice (LeBlanc) MacFarlane. Buzz joined the Canadian Army in 1964 serving with the Black Watch for several years when he remustered to cook. Buzz completed his military service in 1991 retiring with the rank of Warrant Officer. Following, he enjoyed working on his wood lot and driving his Harley Davidson motorcycles. Buzz and his wife, Lana, took many scenic journeys across Canada on their bikes stopping along the way to visit family and friends. He was a brilliant man who enjoyed the challenge of solving problems and helping others. His pseudo-gruff exterior, only slightly masked the warm and generous man he was. Buzz’s love and dedication to Lana was evident in everything he did, especially his kindness to the many, many animals she sheltered.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Ellana “Lana” MacFarlane; son, Dale MacFarlane, Milton, Ont.; sister, Peggy Kearns, Moncton; brother, Wayne (Nancy) MacFarlane, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; aunt, Sandra MacFarlane, Moncton; uncle, Bunny LeBlanc, Halifax; several nieces and nephews; many cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Tanya Steeves.

In keeping with Buster’s wishes, his family will honour him with a private Celebration of Life.

Donations may be made in Buster’s memory to the Pictou County SPCA.
