Obituary of William Kyle
THORBURN – William “Billy” Kyle, 100, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Thorburn, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Motherwell, Scotland on December 23, 1909, he was a son of the late Patrick and Ellen (Hannigan) Kyle. He immigrated at age 13 and worked at various jobs, including the McBean Mine, Thorburn, Clairtone, Electrohome and Sears, avoiding official retirement until his mid 70’s. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and Hudson Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M., Thorburn. Bill’s remarkable longevity can in part be attributed to his passion for work and daily mountain walks with friend, Don. He will be remembered long and lovingly for his indomitable spirit and love for family and friends.
Surviving are daughters, Kathleen Cassata, Rochester, New York; Nell Isaac, Medicine Hat, Alta.; Wilma “Willie” (Philip) Reid, Halifax; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Annabelle (MacLean); granddaughter, Cara Cassata; brothers, James, Patrick, Edward, Thomas and John.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. and Hudson Lodge Masonic service 4 p.m., both Tuesday, April 20th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 21st in Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will be in Thorburn Cemetery.
