Obituary of Walter Alexander Curley
NEW GLASGOW – Walter Alexander Curley Sr., 72, New Glasgow, passed away, Thursday, May 1, 2008 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his wife by his side.
Born in Clermont, P.E.I., on February 8, 1936, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Florence (MacNeill) Curley. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. He was employed for 10 years with the Bank of Nova Scotia in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Prior to retirement in 2001, he was employed as Secretary Treasurer with W. A. O’Farrell Chev-Olds Ltd., New Glasgow for 34 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Lillian (White); daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Curley (Peter Furhovde), Calgary, Alta; Carol (Mike) Hatfield, Coalburn; Gail (Clinton) Jewell, New Glasgow; Maureen (Kelvin) Cooke, Hammonds Plains; sons, Walter Jr. (Joy) Curley, New Glasgow; Gavin Curley (Tamara Smith), New Westminster, B.C.; grandchildren, Carolyn and Charlene Aikens, Wayne and Jeffrey Cameron, Nicole Hatfield, CJ, Keigan and Clerissa Jewell, Ashley and Mason Cooke, Walter Curley III; sister, Frances Pepper, Vancouver, B.C.; brother, Alvin (Marion) Curley, New Annan, P.E.I.; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Florence and Alice in infancy, Zelma Borhaven, Glenn Chafe, Jean Creed and Paula Shotton; brothers, Leland and Gavin.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Baptist Parish with Father Donald Boudreau presiding. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, New Glasgow.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Walter’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
