Obituary of James Wayne MacCuish
TRENTON – James Wayne “Jim” MacCuish, Sr., 67, Trenton, passed away peacefully in his daughter’s arms, surrounded by his family on Monday, July 13, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Lillian Blanche (Bowie) MacCuish, Bridgeville and the late John Charles “Chick” MacCuish Sr. He served in the Canadian Navy from 1960 – 1963. He was employed in construction for over 40 years, having worked on various construction projects throughout Pictou County. He was very proud to have been a contributor to the building of the Confederation Bridge. He had owned and operated Home Renovators, was employed with Sunny Brae Roofing for many years. He operated J. W. MacCuish Roofing with his son until retirement in 2007. Jim was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow and the Mixed Dart League. He enjoyed playing shuffleboard with his friends at the Legion. He was a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan, who enjoyed motorcycles, hunting and fishing. Jim was a loving father and grandfather, who cherished time spent with family and his dog, Lobo.
Surviving besides his mother, Lillian, are daughter and daddy’s little girl, Jodi (Matthew) MacKay, Trenton; son and best friend, Jim Jr. (Paula), Trenton;grandchildren, “grampie’s little angels”, Brandi, Tori, Keeley, Megan, Rebecca and Dylan; sisters, Donna (Peter) Galbraith, Hopewell; Diane Swain (Ernie), Bridgeville; Joan (Jerome) Pellerine, New Glasgow; brothers, John “Chick” Jr. (Julie), Florida, USA; David (Doreen), Frobisher, Sask.; former wife and friend, Marilyn “Chickie” MacCuish; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Chick Sr.; grandson, Matthew MacKay Jr.; nieces, Cindy MacCuish and Denise MacCuish Niles.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, Tribute Service, 6:30 p.m., all Thursday, July 16th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 17th in the Chapel with Mr. Fergie MacKay officiating.
