John Dan “Johnie D.R.” MacGillivray
NEW GLASGOW/ARDNESS – John Dan “Johnie D.R.” MacGillivray, 85, East River Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Ardness, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Dunmaglass, he was a son of the late D.R. and Cassie (Gillis) MacGillivray. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lismore. Prior to retirement, he had been a heavy equipment operator, employed with the Dept. of Highways, various construction companies and the Pictou County Planning Commission Land Fill division. He was a longtime member and supporter of the Conservative Party.
He is survived by sisters, Mary Delaney, Antigonish; Katherine Stewart, Ashdale; Margaret MacLellan, Cloverville; Theresa MacDonald, Ardness; brothers, Alex, New Glasgow; Charlie, Mississauga, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Florence (MacDonald); brothers, Donald and Bernie.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church celebrated by Father Andrew Boyd and Father Colin MacKinnon. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund or the Karen Lynn MacDonald Allergy Awareness Society.
