Obituary of Kenneth George MacKay

PICTOU LANDING – Kenneth George “Kenny” MacKay, 53, Pictou Landing, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 25, 2009 due to a tragic automobile accident. Born on June 27, 1955 in Fort William, Ont., he was the son of Bessie Florence (Fraser) MacKay, Thunder Bay, Ont. and the late James MacKay. He had been employed as a deckhand, working on the Great Lakes for several years. He enjoyed carpentry and prior to retirement due to ill health, he was the Maintenance Supervisor at Versa Care Centre, Thunder Bay. He was a member of the Thunder Bay Harley Owners Group, the Elks Club, New Glasgow, and the Seafarers International Union. Kenny was an avid animal lover, leaving behind his devoted dogs, Dozer and Chevy. Surviving are his wife, Cindy Lou (Winters) MacKay; daughter, Jacqie MacKay (Chris Parker), Ottawa; stepsons, Jason (Maria) Bowers, Richard (Mellisa) Bowers, Thunder Bay; step-grandchildren, Jade Ashley, Isabella and Nico Bowers; sisters, Peggy (Mike) MacKay, New Glasgow; Jessie (Norm) Matyczuk, Heather Cuff, Jeannie MacKay, Jamie (Rick) Nash, Holly (Eugene) Perozzo, Thunder Bay; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, James; son, James Lee George MacKay. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 29th at 5966 Pictou Landing Road. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30th in Greenwood Cemetery, Pictou Landing with Mr. Fergie MacKay officiating. A reception will follow at the home of Kenny’s cousin, Susan Halfyard, 5964 Pictou Landing Road. Donations may be made in Kenny’s memory to the Pictou County S.P.C.A.
