Obituary of Charles Avery Crosby
MERIGOMISH – Charles Avery “Charlie” Crosby, 89, Merigomish, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Roy and Lillian (Cook) Crosby. During the Second World War, he served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment (1943-1946) in Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium and France. Prior to retirement, he had been employed at the former Hawker Siddeley, Trenton. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and was an avid gardener. He loved and cared for many orphaned animals in his home over the years.
Surviving are his sons, Earl (Heather) Crosby, New Glasgow; Grant (Christene) Crosby, Malignant Cove; grandchildren, Alexander (Nadine), Kevin, Kelly, Kim (Jeff) and Krista; great-grandchildren, Sara, Kevin and Ada; former daughter-in-law, Novelle Crosby, Pictou; sisters, Dorothy Stoneburg, London, Ont.; Isabel (Harry) Atwater, Sutherland’s River; brother, Alfred Crosby, Vancouver, B.C.; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Betty M. (Fraser); sister, May Perry; brothers, Ross and Ralph.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 10th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service and Royal Canadian Legion tribute service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 11th with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating. Interment will be in French River Cemetery.
