THORBURN – Leslie Irene MacLellan, 86, Northumberland Veterans Unit, SHMH, Pictou formerly of Thorburn passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2009 in the Unit. Born in Thorburn, she was a daughter of the late George Robert and Mary Katherine (MacKinnon) MacLeod. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division in 1942, serving in Canada until 1945, obtaining the rank of Corporal. She was a life-time member of Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn having served with the Ladies Guild and as a Sunday School Superintendent for over 20 years. She was a Past Noble Grand of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge No. 42, Thorburn, a 50-year jewel holder and recipient of the Declaration of Chivalry Jewel. She was a member of Century Chapter No. 10, Order of the Eastern Star, New Glasgow. Surviving are her daughters, Mary K. (Clarrie) MacKinnon, Westville; Ardath (Cecil) Rankin, Pictou; son, George (Heather), Stellarton; sisters, Ardath Black, New Glasgow; Eileen (Duke) Johnson, Markham, Ont.; grandchildren, Jyl MacKinnon (Trevor Robinson), Kent (Tina) MacKinnon, Sarah MacKinnon, Bradley McLean, Maureen McLean, Liz MacLellan; great-granddaughters, Clare, Grace and Nora MacKinnon; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George Elmer MacLellan; brothers, Stuart and Alden MacLeod; son-in-law, Jamie McLean. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service 3:45 p.m., Century Chapter No. 10, O.E.S. service 6:15 p.m. and Dorcas Rebekah Lodge No. 42 service 6:30 p.m., all Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will be in Thorburn Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in her memory to Union Presbyterian Church or the Northumberland Veterans Bus Fund.
