Obituary of George Everett Johnstone

NEW GLASGOW - George Everett “Geordie” Johnstone, 82, New Glasgow passed away Monday, March 24, 2008, in Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Northumberland Veterans Unit, Pictou. Born in Country Harbour Cross Roads, he was a son of the late Alexander “Alex” and Thirsa Mae (Smith) Johnstone. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church, Westville. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Hamilton light Infantry 2nd Division in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He served as Deputy Chief, Westville Police Department for several years and with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires until retirement. He enjoyed the sport of boxing. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and brother. Surviving are his wife, Jacquelyn Reid “Jackie” (Langille); daughter, Annabelle Johnstone, New Glasgow; sister, Elsie Fanning, Riverton; brothers, Lewis (Vera) Johnstone, James “Jimmy” (Bessie) Johnstone, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Ashlee, Allan, Jacquelyn and John Thomas; mother-in-law, Alta Reid Langille, New Glasgow; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, John Allan Johnstone; granddaughter, Hannah Grace Reid Johnstone; brothers, Chalmers “Chang” and Albert. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Royal Canadian Legion Tribute service 6:30 p.m., all Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel with Rev. Doug Pillsworth officiating, assisted by Chaplin Michael Simmons. Interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Northumberland Veterans Unit Veterans Bus Fund,C/o. Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital,P.O. Box 1059, 222 Haliburton Rd., Pictou, NS B0K 1H0 or Canadian Cancer Society. My Grampy! My grampy is the dearest thing, Who rounds my heart with a fired ring. He laid flowers at her feet He won my grandma who he wished to meet. I love my grampy, oh so deer, My heart explodes just being near. The sweet old man who sits in his chair With the sweet smelling clothes the old man will wear. I love you grampy, oh so much!
