NEW GLASGOW – Donald Churchill “Donnie” Elms, 64, New Glasgow, passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James Alfred “Alf” and Elmira Elizabeth (Paris) Elms. Prior to retirement, he was employed in construction, having worked with Fraser Mason & Fraser, and Maritime Steel. He was an adherent of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. Surviving are his companion of 43 years, Emma Viola (Byard) Skinner; daughters, Joan Skinner, Thelma Skinner (Robert), Halifax; sons, Robert “Rob” (Wanda) Skinner, Truro; Floyd (Darlene) Skinner, Halifax; Glen Skinner, Blair (Natasha) Skinner, Dartmouth; Darryl (Camille) Skinner, Halifax; sisters, Diane (Bill) Williams, New Glasgow; Jean (Steve) Davis, Toronto, Ont.; brother, Foster (Verna) Elms, New Glasgow; 24 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a great, great-granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Whyet; brother, Ellsworth. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Rhonda Britton officiating. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow. Donations may be made in his memory to the Pictou County VON or Canadian Cancer Society.
