Obituary of Donald Churchill Elms
NEW GLASGOW – Donald Churchill “Donnie” Elms, 64, New Glasgow, passed away Monday, January 7, 2008 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James Alfred “Alf” and Elmira Elizabeth (Paris) Elms. Prior to retirement, he was employed in construction, having worked with Fraser Mason & Fraser, and Maritime Steel. He was an adherent of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow.
Surviving are his companion of 43 years, Emma Viola (Byard) Skinner; daughters, Joan Skinner, Thelma Skinner (Robert), Halifax; sons, Robert “Rob” (Wanda) Skinner, Truro; Floyd (Darlene) Skinner, Halifax; Glen Skinner, Blair (Natasha) Skinner, Dartmouth; Darryl (Camille) Skinner, Halifax; sisters, Diane (Bill) Williams, New Glasgow; Jean (Steve) Davis, Toronto, Ont.; brother, Foster (Verna) Elms, New Glasgow; 24 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a great, great-granddaughter; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Whyet; brother, Ellsworth.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Rhonda Britton officiating. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow.
