Daniel Gaynor

Obituary of Daniel Aaron Gaynor

GAYNOR, Daniel Aaron, 26, of Halifax, son of Bob Gaynor and Ellis Roddick, Pictou County, died Sept. 18, 2008. Daniel spent his short life soaring on the wings of an eagle. He loved to help people and he touched thousands - imparting to them a bigger smile, a stronger will, a more peaceful life, a new skill, or the value of goodness. He packed 24 hours into every day; resenting time out to sleep, but using his dreams to raise the bar on everything he did, and everything he so willingly taught others to do. In July he was diagnosed suddenly with inoperable cancer. Although very ill, he responded by taking on new projects that he could direct from his hospital bed and that someday might help others. He embraced and renewed with joy the 26 years of life he'd been given, and he showed his family, his friends, and those involved in his care how to leave the earth with acceptance, peace, calmness, dignity and humour. He has no idea how many lives he has changed forever. A public celebration of his life will take place at 303 Caribou Island Road, Pictou County, at 2 pm Sunday, September 28th. Everyone is welcome. Please wear casual warm clothes and shoes appropriate for the beach. Each person will carry a single flower in a procession to the beach behind the house, where Daniel's ashes will be scattered on the water. A reception will be held at the house afterward. Daniel wishes his diverse friends and acquaintances to use this time to get to know each other by talking together and sharing stories. It would be appreciated if each guest could contribute a small plate of finger food, and for those so equipped, random bardic music, or a few garden flowers for the procession. Donations in Daniel's name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
