Dear Cathy ... I worked directly with Al for the first 5 years that I was in the Department in the late 1970's and continued to work with him on different occasions afterward. I have always appreciated the guidance and advice that I received from him and his constant theme that what we do in government has to have relevance to the industry we serve.Although I have not seen Al for a couple of years I do think of him often. Jane and I offer our sincerest condolences. Gord Pugh

Dear Cathy, I have know Alan since my meat and livestock days at the OECD in Paris. He helped me get a job in AAFC in 1977 and proceeded to teach me everything I know about the international meat and livestock sector. But above all, he was a very good friend. He cam to visit me not so long ago and we talked about the good old days, and they were good. Alan did more for the meat industry than anyone else I know. His favourite expression at OECD meetings was "Mr. Chairman, Canada is a BIGGG Country" I will always remember him. I wish you and your family strenght for the future without Al. Jim deGraaf

My condolences to all of Al's family members. I had the privilege of working with Al at Agriculture Canada for close to 20 years. I always enjoyed our trips across Canada as Federal Government members of the National tripartite Committees. Al always had a "story" to tell when the meetings got "bogged down". His sense of humour and his tremendous interest in the Canadian Red Meat industry are lasting meemories for me. Condolences to all. Dr Max Colwell

My deepest sympathies to Cathy and family on the passing of Al. Al was well remembered by all of his colleagues at Agriculture and Agri-food Canada. We spoke of him often. He would drop in to my office to see me from time to time and he never seemed to change. It was always like I had just seem him yesterday. He was a real mentor to me when he hired me here at AAFC and I remember him very fondly. Jan Dyer
