Obituary of Murray Edward Lawson
NEW GLASGOW, N.S./KINGSBORO, P.E.I. - Murray Edward Lawson Sr., 77, New Glasgow, formerly of Kingsboro, P.E.I., passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 13, 2007 in the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow surrounded by his family.
Born in Woodstock, N.B., he was a son of the late Guy Marshall and Gertrude Lois (Watson) Lawson. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Atlantic Motors and the former Thompson and Sutherland, Benro Forest Products and Hawker Siddeley (Trenton Works). He was a member and former treasurer of Kingsboro Baptist Church, and the Senior Neighbours Club, Kingsboro. He was a former member of First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow. Murray was actively involved with the Militia, in both Bridgewater and Pictou, for 27 years. He earned the rank of Master Warrant Officer while serving with the Nova Scotia Highlanders, First Battalion, E Company, Pictou and received the Canadian Forces Decoration with clasp and the Queens Jubilee Medal. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, golfing, playing cards and having family and friends visit. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Helen (Mollins) Lawson; daughters, Winnie (Elmer) McCann, New Glasgow; Kathy (Herb) Mattatall, Hardwood Hill; son, Murray “Bud” Lawson, Charlottetown; sisters, Joyce (Ralph) Sewell, Pembroke, N.B.; Carole Likely, Fredericton; brothers, Willard, Grafton, N.B.; Philip (Margaret), Skiff Lake, N.B.; Frank (Judy), Hawkstone, Ont.; Winston (Mary), Elkford, B.C.; Lloyd (Wilma), Grafton; grandchildren, David (Anna) McCann, Krista McCann, Jason Lawson (Amy MacIntosh), Shannon Lawson, Ashley Mattatall (Jason Lawrence), Heather Mattatall, Karen Mattatall; great-grandchildren, Nicholas McCann, Kate McCann, Jacob Lawrence; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lois in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow and 2-3 p.m. Sunday in Kingsboro Baptist Church where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Alan Beck officiating. Interment will be in Kingsboro Cemetery.
